My work with audio began during my time with the Daily Emerald. In December 2020 while everyone including myself was at home doing finals, we recorded an Emerald podcast profiling the upcoming PAC-12 Championship game. I was instantly intrigued. The next school year I joined 88.1 KWVA News, the University of Oregon's official radio channel. After completing the four-step training, I officially became a producer and commentator for KWVA's weekly sports talk show, Quacksmack. As a producer, I used Audition and Audacity to cut and edit each segment as well as a soundboard to make proper changes mid-show. As a commentator, I contributed to Quacksmack shows by doing the proper research on whatever Oregon sport was being discussed. I'd then take my facts, commentary, and even a few questions to each segment to make sure I was prepared. Working for KWVA was really the first time I was able to work on my pacing and pitch with audio storytelling, but working as a Public Address Announcer for Marist High School Football helped me in these regards tremendously. At Marist, I was responsible for using a printed roster to point out whoever made the play on offense for the other commentator, and I was responsible for calling out the defensive play and player myself. Working as a PA Announcer definitely turned me into a better and more confident Public Speaker. I was able to try out different voice inflections at different paces for different kinds of plays, and my pronunciation and annunciation skills instantly improved. My most recent audio endeavor has been a podcast I started on my own called N.B.A Talk. I use Anchor to record monthly podcasts discussing the newest and most important NBA news, and I post each 30-45 minute segment on Spotify. I hope you enjoy my audio work!
