Ever since my sophomore year of high school, I've written for several different writing publications and groups. As part of the school Journalism team from sophomore to junior year, I wrote sports, reviews, and individual student profiles for the online publication. I took a short break from Journalism during my senior and freshman year of college because I wanted to explore other career paths. During the pandemic in 2020, however, I found a new love for writing. I began writing sports features for fun to kill time, and I was fortunate enough to get a few of my features on The Spectator Sports, a sports publication that my friends write. It was then I realized that I like writing about sports for fun, and my writing career began to take off.
I landed a sport writing position with the Daily Emerald once I got back to school, a student publication through the University of Oregon. I wrote over 50 features, game recaps, game previews, and breaking news pieces for the Emerald in just over a year while also navigating the entire position virtually. It was also during that time that I landed a gig writing for the Cottage Grove Sentinel, a publication about 20 miles south of Eugene. I wrote for the parks and recreation department for an entire summer while contributing 10 articles and subsequent photos to the publication. Writing for The Sentinel was truly the first time I had to go out of my comfort zone in terms of interview subjects and the city itself as I pretty much learned the city on the fly. The summer after finishing up with the Emerald and Sentinel, I was fortunate enough to find new writing positions. I got an internship with Lane United FC, a summer collegiate soccer team based out of Eugene. I wrote game previews, recaps, and news releases for LUFC and I also reached out to and maintained close relationships with countless other publications for team coverage, interviews, and more. At that same time, I was also working for the Eugene Emeralds, a minor-league baseball team. I was fortunate enough to land two articles in the teams' program, both of which were viewed by other 5000 fans in attendance. Currently, I work for Ethos Magazine, a student ran magazine based out of Eugene that focuses on minority groups and individuals. This has helped me develop as a writer tremendously as it's out of my comfort zone of sports. Through all these positions and publications, I've developed my own unique writing style and comfortability yet I can adapt to any kind of writing if need be. Writing for all this time has also improved my own grammar, storytelling and editing skills, and I plan to continue further developing these skills in the future.
